Earlier this year, 26-year-old Andrzej Fonfara had the biggest opportunity of his career, facing off against Adonis Stevenson for the WBC world light heavyweight title. Unfortunately for Fonfara, Stevenson was too much for him, and his big shot ended in a unanimous decision defeat.
Now, Fonfara must restart his climb back to the top of the sport, and the journey begins Saturday in his adopted home city of Chicago against French fighter Doudou Ngumbu (telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET on Showtime). Despite Fonfara’s loss his last time out, Ngumbu will have his hands full. This will be a partisan crowd, and that’s not all Fonfara has going for him.
